About Lisbon· settled 1803
Lewis Kinney built a cabin here in 1802 and platted the town as New Lisbon in February 1803; it was renamed Lisbon in 1895 and the village flag is still modeled on the flag of the Kingdom of Portugal. The 1871 Greek Revival Columbiana County Courthouse anchors downtown. Clement Vallandigham and Marcus Alonzo Hanna were both born here, and in July 1863 Confederate Gen. John Hunt Morgan surrendered near West Point just northeast of town — the northernmost point reached by an officially organized Confederate command.
