Gas Leak Detection and Repair
Finding the leak is most of the job. We work the line in sections with an electronic combustible gas detector, put a soap solution on every joint and fitting, and where the run is hidden we isolate it and watch a pressure gauge to prove which section is losing gas. That is the difference between opening one wall and opening four.
Where leaks usually are
The flex connector behind a range or dryer, a union or threaded fitting that was never sealed properly, black pipe that corroded in a damp basement or crawl space, and buried runs out to a garage, grill, or fire pit.
What the repair looks like
Sometimes it is a connector and a shutoff valve. Sometimes a corroded section comes out and new pipe goes in. If a long run is failing in more than one spot, replacing it beats chasing it, and we will tell you which one you are looking at.
Proving it is fixed
Every repair goes back under pressure and has to hold on the gauge before the wall closes. If the inspector or the utility needs to witness the test, we schedule around them.
Gas Line Inspection and Pressure Testing
A gas line inspection is a pressure test plus a walk of the whole system: the meter riser, the shutoffs, every appliance connection, the pipe sizing against what is actually hooked up, and the condition of any buried or exposed run. You usually need one for a reason.

This is the question that decides whose bill it is, and almost nobody knows the answer until the day they need it. The meter is the dividing line.
The utility's side
The main in the street, the service line running to your house, and the meter itself. A leak on that side is a call to Enbridge Gas, they respond, and it does not cost you anything.
Your side
Everything downstream of the meter: the riser, the black pipe or CSST through the basement and walls, every shutoff valve, and the flex connector at each appliance. That is the plumber's half of the line, and yours to pay for.
Why the order matters
Call Enbridge first when you smell gas. They find the source and shut it off. If it is on their side they fix it. If it is past the meter they tag it, leave it off, and you need a licensed plumber before you get heat and hot water back.
Enbridge Gas is the utility across Trumbull and Mahoning County. It was East Ohio Gas for most of the time the houses here have been standing, so that is still the name on plenty of kitchen calendars and in most people's phones.

Common Questions
What are the signs of a gas leak?
The most common signs are a rotten-egg or sulfur smell, a hissing sound near a gas line, dead plants or vegetation over a buried line, and unusually high gas bills. If you notice any of these, leave the home and call us right away.
Can any plumber work on a gas line?
No. A gas line needs a licensed plumbing contractor, and most of the work needs a permit and an inspection on top of that. A handyman, an appliance installer, or an unlicensed helper cannot legally run or repair fuel gas piping in Ohio. Our license number is OH LIC# 49341, and you are welcome to ask for it before we start.
Who installs a gas line for a new appliance?
A licensed plumber, not the appliance delivery crew. We handle stove, dryer, water heater, furnace, grill, and fire pit hookups, size the line for the appliance, and pull the permit so it passes inspection.
Do you do gas stove hookups?
Yes. Gas stove and range hookups are one of our most common calls. Delivery crews will set the appliance in place but will not connect the gas, so a licensed plumber has to run or extend the line, size it correctly, install the shutoff and flex connector, then pressure-test the connection. How much does gas leak repair cost?
Four things move the number: where the leak is, how much line has to be opened up, whether the run is exposed or buried, and whether the job needs a permit and inspection. A leaking flex connector or a fitting at an appliance is a small job. A corroded run inside a finished wall, or a buried line out to the meter, is a much bigger one. We locate the leak first, then quote the repair with upfront pricing before any work starts. If you smell gas right now, leave the home and call from outside.
Do I need a permit for gas line work?
Yes. Most gas line work is permitted and inspected. We pull the permits and handle the inspection as part of the job.
My gas got shut off at the meter. What now?
When Enbridge Gas shuts you off for a leak, they tag the meter and will not turn it back on until the problem past the meter is repaired and the line passes a pressure test. That repair is the plumber's job, not theirs. We repair the line, test it, and Enbridge comes back to relight. Call us and we will start that clock the same day where we can.
What should I do if I smell gas?
Leave your home immediately, don't turn on any lights or appliances, and call Enbridge Gas from outside. Most people around here still call them East Ohio Gas, and it is the same company. Once they have shut it off, call our 24/7 emergency line for the repair.
