Your new range is sitting in the kitchen and nobody would hook it up. That is normal: connecting fuel gas is licensed plumbing work, and appliance delivery contracts stop at setting the unit in place. AK Water Works is an Ohio-licensed gas plumber (OH LIC# 49341). We will run or extend the gas line, size it for everything already on the system, set the shutoff and connector, install the gas stove or appliance, pull the permit, and pressure-test the tie-in before we leave.
Do I Need a Plumber to Install a Gas Stove?
If gas has to be connected, moved, or run, yes. Big-box delivery crews are contracted to bring the appliance in and set it. They are not licensed to make a gas connection, and they will leave the range sitting there unconnected rather than take the risk. That is the right call on their part, and it is why this is the second phone call almost every new gas range owner makes.
If the kitchen already has a correctly sized gas stub and a working shutoff, this is a short visit: new connector, tie in, test, done. If there is no gas in the room, or the system is already at capacity, it becomes a gas line installation and it needs a permit. We tell you which one you have before we quote it.

What a Gas Hookup Actually Involves
Four things happen on every one of these, and the first one is the part people are surprised by.
Size the line for the load
Every appliance has a BTU rating, and the pipe has to carry all of them at once. Adding a range to a line already feeding a furnace and a water heater is where an undersized run shows up as low flame or an appliance that will not stay lit.
Run or extend the pipe
Black iron or CSST depending on the route, supported and protected where it passes through framing, with a shutoff valve you can actually reach at the appliance.
Make the connection
A rated flex connector, a sediment trap where the code calls for one, and joints sealed with gas-rated compound. Never the connector that came in the box with a 20 year old appliance.
Pressure test and light it
The line goes under pressure and has to hold on the gauge. Then we light the appliance, check the flame, and leak-check every joint with solution before we pack up.
Converting a Kitchen from Electric to Gas
Plenty of homes around Warren, Girard, and the older Youngstown neighborhoods were built or remodeled with an electric range and no gas in the kitchen at all, even though the furnace and water heater downstairs run on gas. Getting a gas range in means running a new branch up from that existing system.
We check capacity first
Adding a range to a system already feeding a furnace, a water heater, and a dryer can push the existing pipe past what it can carry. That gets found before the wall opens, not after.
Routing through a finished house
Most runs go up through a basement ceiling and into the back of a base cabinet. We walk the route with you before we cut anything, so you know exactly what gets opened.
The old 240 volt circuit
Do not leave a live range outlet buried behind a cabinet. Our electrical team can cap it or repurpose the circuit while we are there.

Common Questions
Do I need a plumber to install a gas stove?
Yes, if gas has to be connected, moved, or run. Appliance delivery crews will bring the range in and set it in place, but their contract almost always stops short of connecting gas. Connecting fuel gas piping in Ohio is licensed plumbing work, and adding or extending a line needs a permit on top of that. We are licensed under OH LIC# 49341.
Can a plumber run a gas line for a stove where there is no gas now?
Yes, that is the most common version of this job. We find the nearest point on the existing system that has the capacity, run new pipe to the kitchen, set a shutoff behind the range, and pressure-test the whole thing. If the existing system does not have the capacity, we tell you that before we start rather than after.
I am switching from an electric stove to gas. What is involved?
Two trades. We handle the gas: run the line to the kitchen, set the shutoff, connect the range, and test it. The old 240 volt range outlet should be dealt with properly rather than left live behind a cabinet, and our electrical team can cap or repurpose that circuit on the same visit.
Does a gas dryer hookup need a permit?
Extending or adding gas piping is permitted work in most communities here. Swapping a dryer onto an existing, correctly sized gas stub with a new connector often is not. We tell you which one you have before we quote it, and we pull the permit when the job needs one.
My new tankless water heater will not keep up. Is the gas line the problem?
It frequently is. A tankless unit can call for three or four times the gas of the tank it replaced, and the half-inch line that fed the old tank cannot deliver it. If your tankless runs fine alone but drops out when the furnace fires, that is a sizing problem, not a defective unit.
Can you run gas out to a grill or fire pit?
