Frequently Asked Questions
How often should I change my HVAC filter?
Standard 1-inch filters should be changed every 1-3 months. Thicker media filters (4-5 inches) can last 6-12 months. Check monthly and replace when visibly dirty. A clogged filter restricts airflow, reduces efficiency, and can damage your system.
What temperature should I set my thermostat to save energy?
The Department of Energy recommends 68°F in winter when home, and lowering it 7-10 degrees when sleeping or away. In summer, set it to 78°F when home and higher when away. A programmable or smart thermostat automates these adjustments.
How long do HVAC systems typically last?
Air conditioners last 15-20 years, furnaces 15-20 years, heat pumps 10-15 years, and boilers 20-30 years. Regular maintenance extends lifespan significantly. If your system is approaching these ages, start planning for replacement.
Why is my energy bill so high?
Common causes include an aging or inefficient system, dirty filters, leaky ductwork, poor insulation, thermostat issues, or a system that's improperly sized. A professional energy audit can identify the specific causes in your home.
What is a SEER rating and why does it matter?
SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio) measures AC and heat pump cooling efficiency. Higher SEER means lower operating costs. Minimum is 14 SEER in our region. We recommend 16+ SEER for the best balance of cost and efficiency.
Do you offer HVAC maintenance plans?
Yes! Our maintenance plans include annual tune-ups for heating and cooling, priority scheduling, discounts on repairs, and no overtime charges. Regular maintenance prevents breakdowns and keeps your warranty valid.
