Excavation / Heavy Equipment Operator
Run mini-excavators and backhoes on sewer-line replacements, water-line repairs, and waterproofing digs across NE Ohio.

About the Role
AK Water Works is hiring an experienced excavation operator to support our sewer, water service, and exterior waterproofing crews. You’ll run mini-ex and backhoe on a steady mix of residential and commercial digs — sewer line replacements, water service swaps, foundation excavations, and basement waterproofing projects.
What you’ll do
- Operate mini-excavators, backhoes, and skid steers on residential digs
- Locate utilities, hand-dig as needed, and protect underground infrastructure
- Trench, set pipe, and backfill to spec on sewer and water-line jobs
- Restore lawns and driveways to a clean, professional finish
- Work alongside our plumbing and waterproofing crews
- Maintain equipment and report mechanical issues promptly
What you bring
- At least 3 years operating mini-ex and backhoe
- CDL Class A or B (or willingness to obtain within 6 months)
- OUPS / 811 underground-utility awareness
- Valid driver’s license with a clean record
- Ability to read site plans and locate marks
- Pass a background check and drug screen
Nice to have
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
- Trench-safety / competent-person certification
- Experience with directional drilling or pipe bursting
